Foliage - Banyan Tree |
In this tutorial we are going to create a Banyan Tree with 3ds Max 2010, once we have our tree we are going to change the material with just a couple of clicks. If you know how to use the material editor then you will enjoy this tutorial and will be able to experiment with all the plants in AEC Extended.
| Step 1. | |
| Open 3ds Max, start with a new page and save it in your scenes folder in 3ds Max as Foliage. | |
| Step 2. | |
| Go to the Geometry panel and from the drop down menu behind Standard Primitive select AEC Extended. Click on the image of the Banyan tree, hold the mouse down and drag the tree to the top viewport. | |
| Step 3. | |
| Click on the modify button, now we can set the parameters for the Banyan tree. Height = 270 Density = 1,0 Purning = 0,0 Seed = 1364101 (Press the "New" button to get random adjustments) |
| Step 4. | |
| Open the material editor, you can do this by clicking on the material editor on the main toolbar or press M on the keyboard. Select one of the material spheres, notice that a white frame appears around it when selected. Click on the eyedropper which is situated underneath the material spheres, the eyedropper will appear when you go near the tree in the perspective viewport, click with the eyedropper any where on the tree. As soon as you touch the tree with the eyedropper the material editor opens Multi/Sub -Object parameters with all the parts of the tree and the original material used in the model. | |
| Step 5. | |
| In the Multi/Sub-Object parameters we can change the material for the trunk, wigglers, branches, pillar roots, leaves and canopy. If we want to just change the color, click on the small colored square, the color selector opens and we can easily change the color by selecting a new color then click OK. | |
| Step 6. | |
| To add a map, go to the Diffuse color line and click on the "None" button, from the material map browser choose "Bitmap" then click Ok. | |
| Step 7. | |
| The "Select Bitmap file " will appear, now we have to navigate through our computer to the programs file, and find the maps file situated in Autodesk-3dsmax2010-maps-wood-treedark. | |
| Step 8. | |
| Double click on the "Go to parent" button to return to the Multi/Sub-Object basic parameters and continue adding material to the rest of the parts of the tree, repeating these exercises. | |
Choose other plants from AEC Extended and experiment with colors and maps, you can really make some interesting models. Have fun! |
